Government earmarks 3 billion shillings for upgrade of Wera HCIII to Health Centre IV

Government has allocated three billion shillings for the upgrade of Wera Health Centre Three to Health Centre four.

The development is being funded under the Uganda intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers Programme (UGIFT)

The upgrade has been planned in the 2024/2025 financial year.

According Godfrey Opolot the Acting District Health Officer Amuria, the three billion shillings will be used for putting in place the necessary infrastructure that will facilitate the elevation of Wera Health Centre III to health center four.

He said in addition to the three billion shillings, another 475,000,000 shillings has been budgeted for the acquisition of medical, and laboratory equipment for the facility.

“The upgrade of Wera Health Centre III to Health centre four will ease the provision of health services for our people” Opolot remarked.

Mr Jacob Aliu the Secretary for Health and Education said the upgrade of the facility to a health centre four is long overdue given the fact that Amuria General Hospital is far for some of the patients.

“ As a political leadership of Amuria district we are delighted with the upgrade of Wera health Centre III to health Centre IV, this will serve our people especially in the sub counties of Abarilela, Wera , and Amolo sub counties” Aliu said.

In 2019/2020 financial year government, upgraded Amuria Health Centre IV to a general hospital. The hospital now serves people from the districts of Amuria , Abim , Alebtong, Soroti and Kapelebyong.

In the forth coming 2024/2025 financial year Golokwara and Abeko health centre IIs will officially begin operating as health centre IIIs.

This is after government through funding from UGIFT constructed maternity wards in the two facilities and provided assorted medical equipment for the two facilities to operate as health centre IIIs.

According to the 2024/25 financial year budget, Amuria district has also earmarked 88,974,000 shillings for the construction of a theatre at Orungo Health Centre III.
Other projects
In the 2024/25 financial year government under the school facilitation grant will construct a two in one classroom block with an office at Oriebai Primary school and Olwaorungo primary school. Each school has been allocated 78,430,000.

Additionally 20,000,000 shillings has been earmarked for the construction of a pit latrine at Ogolai primary school.
